Scarlet and Gray Days
There is a new series on BTN which gives an inside look at Ohio State football as they begin training camp. What a fascinating look this is for the Buckeye fan, to see inside the facilities, the interactions of players and coaches, and the preparation for the season. I throughly enjoyed the first installment.
There was one thing I noticed, though, and that is what nice cars the players drive. I know that the players are student athletes who per NCAA rules can not hold a part time job. And I know that boosters can not give cars to the players, that is a violation of NCAA rules. So my question is how do the players get to drive such nice cars? I am not asking in judgement, I am asking because I know that my parents didn't provide me with a nice car, heck, as a parent I can't provide the type of cars these players are driving. So how do they do it? I don't know, but a BTN behind the scenes series such as this one reveals things the public doesn't get to normally see, and it invites questions that viewers like me will pose. So, does anyone have an answer?

Who to Pick?
My family members (with the exception of Luann) all have a favorite soccer team to follow in the Premier League. My son in law and son each root for Chelsea. My other son roots for Tottenham. Me? I don't have a favorite, at least not yet. I enjoy watching all the teams and can find a reason to have a rooting interest in many. Will a team beckon my interest? I am willing to listen.

I have taken the plunge
Being the sports fan that I am, I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would be a season ticket holder for any team in any sport. Guess again! I have taken the plunge with my daughter, Emily, as we both have joined the Columbus Blue Jackets season ticket base. We did so because we are huge hockey fans and we also think the Jackets will do well in the playoffs this year. Being a season ticket holder will guarantee the both of us to attend one game in each playoff series. So here is to the Blue Jackets and being a season ticket holder. By the way, it is a quarter season flex package, which amounts to ten games. I don't have the time, interest, nor the cash to be a half or full season ticket holder. I do have a job, and a family, and a life.

It's Football Season!
Yes, it is football season! I used to say that in the month of June, when I was younger, as the Tribe would be out of contention for the pennant in June. Now it is August and they are out of contention. With good reason, as the Tribe can't score any runs. In fact, they can't put hits together, they can't hit with runners in scoring position, they actually have no offense of which to speak. Their offense is offensive. So what will they do to fix the problem? They won't go out and sign a player, not with a third of their payroll tied up in Bourn and Swisher. Will they trade a pitcher? That would be robbing Peter to pay Paul. They have good starting pitching, and if pitching is 80% of the game, well then they set for the future. But not if they trade a starting pitcher, if they do, the return better be great. Not good, great. What I expect is two bonafide major league hitters for one starter. Am I dreaming? Perhaps, but watching the Tribe trying to score runs this year has been a nightmare
